Claudia Aalderink is a Kihikihi based artist/photographer and the face behind The Mandarin Tree – Art Gallery. Claudia, originally from Holland, has lived with her family in New Zealand since 2005. “The opportunities we have had since we moved here have been life changing”
Starting a full-time study at 39 has been a real eye-opener for Claudia and she has been able to combine her love for art, nature and people to create a life she loves.
Claudia's love for working with people has resulted in ambitious project (In Transition,stories of living with death, 2013) where she combined photography and working with people to create a beautiful documentary project. The project, focused on documenting five terminally ill people, has been overwhelmingly well-received and will eventually be combined in a publication. Claudia plans to dedicate her Masters Degree on how dealing with death and dying affects the family members.
In October 2014 Claudia's adventures with The Mandarin Tree took off when she openened her own art gallery in Gordonton. Selling 100% NZ made art and featuring a large variety of New Zealand artists including her own beehive artworks , paintings and sculptures have ensured a platform for artists and she is vastly gaining recognition in the art scene around New Zealand.
Working as a free-lance photographer for a number of clients and businesses Claudia enjoys the variety and challenges that each photo shoot brings and combining her love for photography and art has allowed Claudia to live the life she loves.
Claudia has a First-class Honours Degree in Photography and plans to start her master’s degree in the coming years.
In 2014 Claudia opened her own art gallery, The Mandarin Tree, selling 100% NZ made art and featuring a large variety of New Zealand artists including her own beehive artworks, paintings and sculptures.
